A talk from Spurs' Club doctor
Dr Imtiaz Ahmad, Club Doctor for Tottenham Hotspur Academy and Reserves, and GP in Lambeth, came along to the Coping Through Football Physical Health & Wellbeing event on 16th December at London Marathon Playing Field, Hainault, to talk to the group about healthy lifestyles and give them an insight into the football players’ nutrition.
Dr Ahmad explained how the service users could help to control their weight through healthy eating and physical activity and gave examples of what to eat and drink. It was a shock to some people that they would have to run half a marathon in order to burn off a 1200 Kcal Big Mac meal. He also emphasised the importance of hand hygiene in order to prevent the spread of stomach infections and viruses.
His visit was well received by the group, they were engaged in the presentation and many asked questions about their diet and hydration levels. They agreed that they would like Dr Ahmad to return to the project and provide another workshop, possibly on sports injuries.
After the presentation the group played football followed by refreshments in the pavilion.
