CTF staff meet Minister for Sport

Coping Through Football staff attended a special event at City Hall on Wednesday 21st January to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the London Playing Fields Foundation.  The reception, hosted by Kate Hoey MP on behalf of the Mayor of London, was attended by over one hundred supporters of the charity.

Helen Grant MP, Minister for Sport attended the event and met with Coping Through Football representatives from NELFT and Leyton Orient Trust.  Barbara Armstrong Waltham Forest Lead for Social Inclusion and Joint Lead OT  said:

It is a great opportunity to raise the profile of the project with the Sports Minister and to highlight our collaborative work with two sports organisations who are leading the way in delivering a more positive approach to supporting people with mental health issues.”

Alex Welsh, LPFF Chief Executive said:

“We are delighted that our partners from NELFT and Leyton Orient Trust are able to join us on this auspicious occasion.  Using sport to transform the lives of disadvantaged groups was one of our founding principles back in 1890 and it remains just as relevant today.  We have a proven track record of designing and delivering innovative projects that reach beyond sport. Through our Coping Through Football project we have made a real impact in improving the health and wellbeing of adults and young people experiencing mental health issues.

The project also provides a glimpse of the future where the sports sector will work routinely with the NHS on activity programmes.”
