Health Business Award nomination
Coping Through Football has been commended for its innovation in mental health at this year’s Health Business Awards. The Awards recognise and celebrate the significant contributions made each year by organisations and individuals that work inside and alongside the NHS.
Barbara Armstrong, Waltham Forest Lead for Social Inclusion and Joint Lead Occupational Therapist from NELFT who has overseen the delivery of the Coping Through Football project, said:
“NELFT is committed to delivering services that are recovery-focussed and promote social inclusion.
It is fantastic that Coping Through Football, which has helped so many people with their recovery from mental health problems, has been recognised by Health Business Awards.
Within mental health it is recognised that there is no ‘benchmark’ of what someone’s recovery should look like or how quickly someone needs to achieve their goals. This has been key to the success of Coping Through Football in realising the potential of those individuals using our services.”
Chief Executive of London Playing Fields Foundation Alex Welsh said:
“We are particularly pleased to be nominated for this award for innovation as our intention from the outset was to provide a service with a difference. What sets Coping Through Football apart from other similar projects is that football outcomes are secondary to improvements to the physical health and well-being of the participants, whilst at the same time being underpinned by clinical protocols.”
