World Mental Health Day event
Coping Through Football held its annual 6-a-side football tournament on 6th October at the Score Centre in Leyton. There was a great turn out for tournament, with over thirty service users taking part, and spectators contributing to the supportive atmosphere. The event was held to promote World Mental Health Day and the focus of the tournament was for it to be an enjoyable experience for all participants.
Leyton Orient’s first team player Tom Parkes attended the tournament, presenting the medals and giving out free tickets to that Saturday’s home match against Portsmouth which was dedicated as a Health Awareness match day to raise awareness of mental health and dementia. Leyton Orient Trust also made available a generous allocation of tickets for carers, family members and friends of people living with dementia, and to users of NELFT’s mental health services to attend the game.
Barbara Armstrong, Waltham Forest Lead for Social Inclusion and Joint Lead OT at NELFT said:
“The CTF football tournament is held annually to promote World Mental Health Day.
Asking users how they might want to best promote their own experiences, in living with a mental health problem we might reasonably expect a dubious response. So we invite all involved to be part of an event that more positively recognises recovery and the personal achievements of its participants.”
